Derelict Boat Clean-up

IMG_5087.JPGWhen we purchased Creekview last fall there were two boats on the property down by the old Dock.

In the beginning we found them acceptable and we thought they added to the charm.  This past Spring they showed their true colors when the Poison Ivy began to grow.  We quickly sprayed, not something that I like to do this close to the water, but with City grandchildren we figured it a must-do.  Over the years, before our purchase,  the boats were a dumping ground for trash for all type everything from old concrete block to paint brushes, roller covers and other trash.

IMG_3528 IMG_3530 IMG_3529 IMG_3533The boats were very rotten and more trees began to grow including sumac, one trees, and other weed trees that I could not identify.  The decision they had to go but the project was put off until cooler weather.

The ate finally arrived, we had completed the installation of water and electricity at the dock so powers was available so I got my handy and we used reciprocating saw from the garage and began the process.  I back up the old red pickup truck and “the cutting began” starting with the worst of the two.  About a day and a half latter, three trips to the landfill the job was complete.

I saved a couple of useable boards to make some future project from old boat wood but for the most part nothing else was useable.

Old Columns removed

IMG_3485A couple of days ago Pat and I removed the old columns from the garage that held the beam that rand the length of the 40-foot garage.  The benefits are flush wall area so we add an additional shelf on one side and the east wall will be in the workshop when it moves to the Rivah.IMG_3486

Getting Ready for Spring 2016

Its never too early to start planning for Spring.  One of the Fall

projects is to rough-in the water and power for the Dock Area.  We decided that we did not need water on the dock at this time so the plan is for a Yard Hydrant.  We are

installing a utility outlet in the area and we are running a 220-volt line that will be stubbed off at the foot of the dock for a

The storm has come and gone, with very little damage to the area.  We did have unusually high tide and some area flooding, an were told that this was the same water level as Hurricane Sandy** (October 29, 2012).

** Sandy – While it was a Category 2 storm off the coast of the Northeastern United States, the storm became the largest Atlantic hurricane on record (as measured by diameter, with winds spanning 1,100 miles (1,800 km)). Estimates as of 2015 assessed damage to have been about $75 billion (2012 USD), a total surpassed only by Hurricane Katrina.[5] At least 233 people were killed along the path of the storm in eight countries.

We were never in danger of water in the house or the garage and the main reason we stayed at the Cottage @ Creek View was to observe the water levels.IMG_3426

Batten down the hatches

Today, my birthday, we walked around the compound and collected IMG_3394 (1)all of the toys, lawn furniture, dock chairs, placed the Kayaks in their winter storageIMG_3395 location, hoping to get them back in the water next week in preparation for Hurricane Joaquin.

IMG_3390 (1)Were headed back to Richmond late tomorrow afternoon not returning until Saturday, weather permitting and we wanted to be ready in case we get significant winds.
