I think the furniture in the Living Room has stopped moving
This may be the final location for the furniture in the Living Room it moved about 5 times since it has arrived, so I optimistic, but there is the Pat factor, so one never knows. We also added a new rug that Pat found on line which add a real cool effect to the room.
The cottage has a new sign
I stated this project several months ago and while I was going to hand paint the lettering similar to I did when Melissa, my daughter, had here children shop, I opted instead to route the letters and then paint the routed letters. The router template kit was ordered on a special that Rockler had but took a long time to arrive. It arrived about a week ago and finally was able begin to route the lettering. I had cut out the blank, painted the background and painted the Blue Heron head about a month ago but it was a low priority to finish the sign, behind furniture and other odds and ends on the extensive to-do list. We hung the sign on Sunday before we returned to Richmond.
Cellular arrives at the Cottage
Tired of not being able to use our cells at the cottage I decides to seek a better option, so I looked for a deal on an AT&T Microcell. I found many used on line an settled on a like-new from a seller on Amazon.com and arrived last week. This last trip to the Rivah cottage it got installed, it was a bit frustrating because one really has no control over the process at all its all automatic, and it can take up to an hour and a half to complete. After some fits and false starts I finally got it operational and it’s great, we pretty much have 5-bars and where on the 4-acre property where you would want to use your phone, the dock, the driveway, the pool site and of course the back deck, even in the garage where the wifi is very poor. We even get 4G on the 3G cell!
Don’t forget to ask to be added to the access list if you are and AT&T Wireless customer, unless you want to go in to deep cover.

Kitchen nearing completion
This weekend Pat finished her project or glazing the cabinets, and she did a great job. Stand up and take a bow.
Saturday we (Pat) finished the glaze while I did some communications work and tidied up some previous projects. I also reinstalled all of the hinges on the doors and the drawer pulls and knows on the cabinet doors.
Sunday after coffee and breakfast we began the process of reinstalling the doors, starting with the 3 doors where I installed glass, then on to the other 12 doors and 15 drawer fronts, by lunch we were done.
Next was to install the wine rack fabricated in Richmond, which need a bit of modification because I failed to measure the cabinet and wall distance from top to bottom, it actually ran out about ¼-inch but that was an easy fix here at the Cottage.
Kitchen Dining Area Fixture gets a new look.
The original bamboo looking light fixture who home was in the master bed room when we purchased the house was moved to the dining area in the kitchen. We it has taken on a new look and will be reinstalled in the kitchen.
Snowy Weeks at the Cottage
We continue to to make great progress at the Cottage. We survived a snow storm that delivered an additional 7 inches of snow while we were painting and doing other renovation touches.
Before the snow can we were able to take delivery on the furniture for the
Living Room.
We left for home on Saturday just prior to another storm
coming into the area with a truck load of work to do at home:
- Cabinet Doors
- Drawer Fronts
- the kitchen light fixture
- Measurements for a wine rack
- Cabinet dors that will get glass
We also came up with the idea of paining the cheap gold looking kitchen hardware in a pewter finish — we will see how it survives, this was a $6 expense vs about $60 for new hardware.
Morgan’s area is now fit for a dog
The mud room now sports a dog door and a new water hog mat in an attempt to keep Morgan’s feet clean, we have been unsuccessful in teaching her to wipe her paws when she comes back in.
Guest Bath gets and overhaul as well!
We wanted to make sure that our guest, which there will be many of time, are as comfortable as our little cottage will allow. Therefore
we have replaced the terrible carpet with luxury vinyl flooring, replaced a very river water worn toilet with a Champion $ Right-height design, a new sink, vanity and faucet. We removed the old light fixture
and huge oak medicine cabinet. Pat found the mirror at the antique shop in Mathews.
