Week 24 – Let the painting begin

This week the contractors began the painting.  As color goes on the walls the ceilings in the Great Room and Dining area get a coat of flat black paint, this way if the recycled southern yellow pine should move you will not see the primer behind it.

Note: Pat and I moved all of the reclaimed pine over from the barn this past weekend to make room in the barn for the construction of the pantry shelves and cabinets for great room, office and laundry.

The Wolf composite decking arrived today (7/26/2017.) Hopefully we can get the pedestals completed, we were waiting on the decking, so we can get the condensers installed and we can fire up the AC to get the place climatized and then the finishing can begin. The doors and moulding arrived this week.

Hardwood floors are in transit.

Week 20 – Ready for Drywall

Week 20 was basically a short week with the holiday, insulation was finished up and other minor odds and end tied up getting ready fro drywall.

The skylights were installed, temporarily, because were awaiting the roof to do the flashing the same color as the roof. The Wolf Range Hood fan was mounted on the roof.  The MDF Craftsman III style pocket doors were installed to the guest room complex as well as the Master bedroom complex and the Master bath door as well, we are using HÄFELE Hawa Junior 80/Z Sliding Wood Door Hardware Fittings (176 lbs. Max Door Weight) equipped with Smuso soft close feature for all of the pocket doors.

The fire door to the garage was installed as well as the door to the exterior Utility Shed.

Linksys Velop Installation

Preparing for the new house I did a great deal of research on new trends in WiFi.  I was impressed with the Linksys Velop (Belkin Network Products).  I waited for a sale and purchased a three pack.  I may have been able to get by with two units, but I wanted to make sure I had coverage in the Barn and the chicken coop.

Velop is a 100% mesh network – A Velop modular Wi‑Fi mesh system outperforms traditional routers and range extenders giving you 100% seamless Wi‑Fi without lag or buffering. With other Wi‑Fi, the signal degrades as you move farther away from the router, leaving you susceptible to dropped connections. Velop gives you full-strength Wi‑Fi everywhere.

The blue is a mesh network and the gray in and old style repeated network, notice the signal degradation the more its extended

While I was waiting for the water delivery for the pool I installed the new network behind the old network so I can transition the cameras with out problems.  I only install two nodes one in the Bunk House and one in the barn.

The process was very straightforward and took about 45-minutes including the firmware update.

The plus was we now have the same signal at the dock as in the barn and the bunk and the main house.  I will retest after the dry wall in installed next week.

At this point I am extremely happy with the results

Week 19 – Work continues slowly…

Well it’s week 19 and the project and work continues.  This week the contractor finished up the roof  connection from the new house to the Garage/Bunkie. The bathroom, kitchen and laundry room exhaust fans were ducted to the exterior.

The electricians finished up the rough-in including the Coax and Category 7 data cable.  The old electric box in now laying on the rear deck with temporary feeds to the Bunkie and garage sub-panel, the generator box now has the temporary feed and some of the outlets in the new house are active for the contractors.  Electrical inspection is scheduled for Monday and the Dominion Energy will be notified that were ready for our Service upgrade to 400 AMPS. We even installed one telephone box to get the line to the base station of the wireless telephone..

Final walk through of the structure included some additional blocking here and there for the preparation of sheetrock.

The insulation contractor comes on Wednesday.  Were using open cell foam in the 6″ interior walls and roof and closed cell under the floor.

Now that all decisions are made with respect to the rough-in were going to steal some time for a brief visit to Glenn and Kimberly in Easton for our annual 4th of July week get-together.
